In the face of ever-rising energy costs, more and more home-owners are looking at a cost effective and sustainable alternative to traditional fossil fuels. Consequently, Solar PV panels are becoming increasingly popular.

Solar panel PV, also known as solar photovoltaics panels turn the sun’s energy into electricity. They don’t need direct sunlight to work, so can still generate some electricity on a cloudy day. The electricity that is generated can then be used to run household appliances and lighting.

Clean energy
Since solar electricity is a green, renewable energy source, it doesn’t release any harmful carbon dioxide or other pollutants into the atmosphere so helps cut your carbon footprint: A typical home fitted with PEN Solar PV system could save over a tonne of carbon dioxide every year – that equates to more than 30 tonnes over its lifetime.

Maintenance free
With advances in technology and production techniques, solar PV panels have become extremely durable which has increased their lifespan considerably. They are simple in design with no moving parts which means they are relatively maintenance free. Since they depend on the sun to work properly, they do need a little cleaning every now and again. Other than that they don’t require any regular maintenance and can last up to 25 years.

Get paid for the energy you generate

In June of 2019, the UK set a goal to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. As part of pursuing that target, on 1 January 2020, the government instituted the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) scheme. You might have heard of it already, but do you know what it entails and how you can qualify?

The SEG offers export tariffs for a variety of small-scale low-carbon energy generating technologies, as a means to encourage UK homeowners to pursue renewable energy. The Feed-in Tariff ended in 2019, and this new scheme replaces the FIT programme.

Under the SEG, energy companies will offer you tariffs for the renewable energy you export to the National Grid. 

The SEG provides export tariffs for a variety of small-scale, low-carbon energy generation technologies for UK homeowners and covers domestic and business solar photovoltaic systems less than 5MW in size and are MCS installed.
